Maggie Kay Foundation (MKF) is a United States Certified 501(c)(3) Non-Profit. Our Mission is to is to end hunger in the classroom through the establishment of school gardens in Rural Kenya.
Key Priorities of the Maggie Kay Foundation.
Education.
Hungry children cannot learn. One of MKF’s mission is the establishment of sustainable School Gardens to end hunger in the classroom. MKF obtains land near schools and create sustainable gardens and orchards to feed the children fresh vegetables and fruit. The children prepare the soil, plant the seeds, water, and nurture the fruits and vegetables and harvest their crops. The MKF School Gardens now provide the sustenance needed to allow these children to focus on learning. And these children are also learning how to feed themselves. They now are all gardeners who can use these skills to create a food-producing garden anywhere. These same children are now anxious to attend school and more children are now enrolling in these schools.
Volunteer in Kenya Program.
Maggie Kay Foundation Volunteer Program is an integrative learning experience designed to promote global learning through community-based service. Participants are assigned to locally-prioritized projects which aim to address societal and environmental issues. Along the way, participants are exposed to diverse cultures and ideas and are given the opportunity to improve important skills such as critical thinking, adaptability, and intercultural communication. Through observation, reflection, application, and articulation of new knowledge, participants are encouraged to challenge old perceptions and cultivate new perspectives. Volunteers stay with us at The Grand Burnham Hut - Learning Center in rural Kenya. The Hut will house up to 30 people at one time. You will get to enjoy an unforgettable African Safari while Networking, sharing knowledge, and exchanging ideas with other volunteers to come up with solutions to problems faced every day by the women and children of Kenya.
